Common Questions
What is an IBCLC?
An IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is the highest internationally recognized credential in lactation care. Certification requires extensive clinical experience, specialized coursework in human lactation and health sciences, and passing a rigorous international exam. IBCLCs must recertify every five years to stay current with evidence-based practice.
When should I reach out to a lactation consultant?
You can reach out anytime you want a little extra support. Maybe feeding feels tricky, you have questions, or you just want reassurance that everything is going well. Some parents connect during pregnancy to feel prepared and confident before their baby arrives. Whatever your reason, it’s always a good time to ask for guidance.
What to expect during a home visit
During a visit, I bring calm, clarity, and support to your home. We’ll talk about your feeding experience, watch a feeding, and gently check latch, positioning, and cues. You’ll have time for questions, and I’ll provide a personalized plan along with a full week of follow-up support by phone, text, or email.
How should I prepare for our visit?
No preparation is needed at all. You don’t need to clean, organize, or do anything special. Just be ready to feed your baby and relax – I’ll meet you exactly as you are, in the real-life moments where feeding happens.
What areas do you serve?
I see families in their homes throughout HRM and nearby communities. I’m also happy to travel farther for an additional travel fee – just get in touch and we’ll make it work.
Can you help with tongue tie?
Yes. I look for tongue and lip ties during every visit. If a tie may be affecting feeding, I’ll gently explain what I see, help you understand your options, and suggest appropriate referrals within the community.
What if I’m bottle feeding?
I support all types of feeding. Whether you’re exclusively bottle feeding, breastfeeding, pumping, or using a combination, I can help you find what works best for you and your baby. No judgment – just practical, compassionate guidance for your feeding journey.
How do I book?
You can book your visit directly using the “Book a Consultation” button. If you don’t see a time that works for you, feel free to reach out through the contact form, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible to find a time that fits your schedule.
